Our Story

I admire your project so much. I think India is the ideal place for children from Northern Ireland to meet together and to put into perspective our supposed differences of identity.

Saphara has helped nurture contact between the Irish Embassy and our Indian schools, resulting in new sources of sponsorship for our partners. Thanks to a generous grant of €15,000 from the embassy, SNEHA School has been able to build a wonderful lecture room  – now dubbed the ‘Irish Room’. This provides a great venue for teacher training and lectures for the senior pupils.

Mr Ken Thompson, ambassador between 2009–2011 said of Saphara, ‘I admire your project so much. I think India is the ideal place for children from Northern Ireland to meet together and to put into perspective our supposed differences of identity.’

Since then, our teams have been invited to the embassy year after year by a number of different ambassadors. Our afternoons there are always an absolute pleasure and an opportunity for our young people to update the ambassador on Saphara’s work. We are committed to working with as many groups as possible to improve the lives of the underprivileged in India and are therefore grateful to the embassy for all their support.

The current ambassador is Ambassador Brian McElduff and to keep up with all his news, visit the embassy’s website here.
